Mermaidseas Dolphin Defense League International is a nonprofit working to spread awareness for the defense of dolphins and also recognizes the connection between their health with the health of the seas. For the importance of ocean conservation and the defense of dolphins and the survival of our planet (and humans), we are all interconnected. According to student researcher, Ms. A. Neilson, M.S. of FIU; "Dolphins deserve to be safe and free in their home in the waters and seas.  Dolphins are not fish, they are water mammals. Like us, they give birth to their own young and suckle them. Evidence shows they have loving behaviors and caring feelings for one another, and concern for others" (Neilson, 2019). In the research of Ms. Neilson, she explores the rich life of wild dolphins and the issues they face when mistreated by humans and then goes further in her recommendations to inspire solutions in her Global Learning and Peace Corps Prep research capstones. Ms. Neilson will continue this dolphin defense work through Mermaidseas Dolphin Defense League International because beyond capstones she has created a living breathing project design that can continue on and include others who care about dolphins! The more people that unite to encourage the defense of dolphins the better chance dolphins and humans will have on this earth. :-) Student Neilson states; "Whilst dolphins live in the waters, of course, they do not have the same borders we humans do and it will require international laws to protect them from slaughters and harm worldwide.  We must voice out for them, and create more awareness for dolphins to help protect them globally. This site is about an international dolphin defense art project that anyone that cares about dolphins can freely join to participate! We hope you will be inspired to stick around and find out more, so you too can be a part of the solutions if you like.
